The Vancouver Police Department says it deployed dozens of extra officers around downtown due to five separate rallies Saturday.

Up to 30,000 people were expected at the Global Day of Action protest against the current regime in Iran in Yaletown’s David Lam Park, the VPD said.

As well, the 35th Annual Women’s Memorial March — an event that commemorates and remembers all missing and murdered Indigenous women and two-spirited persons — took place, starting at Main and East Hastings.

“Officers will be deployed on bicycles, motorcycles, in vehicles, and on foot to manage crowds and to facilitate peaceful protests,” the VPD said Friday.

Anyone travelling downtown should expect heavy delays and road closures.
