The Mission RCMP is alerting the public about what it says appeared to be two attempted abductions.

Officers say between 11 p.m. on Dec. 14 and 1 a.m. on Dec. 15, a woman was walking along Logan Avenue in Mission when a white SUV approached her. The driver allegedly asked the woman to perform a sexual act. When she refused, police say the driver exited the vehicle and allegedly assaulted the woman.

The woman ran but the driver followed and allegedly bear sprayed her.

Police say the woman was able to escape without serious physical injuries.

On Monday evening, police were alerted to another instance in which a woman asked a bystander for help on 3rd Avenue between Murray Street and Horne Street. Police say she told the bystander that a man in a white SUV has asked her to perform a sexual act before attempting to drag her toward the vehicle.

She was also able to get away without serious injury, and left without speaking to police.

Officers say both women are from a vulnerable sector of the community and it is unknown if they were targeted for that reason.

The RCMP is asking the public to be on the lookout for a white SUV.

The driver is described as a male, approximately six feet tall, with a beard, short hair and tattoos on his arms.

Police say they do not know at this time if the suspect is from Mission or another community.

Social service providers are being asked to ensure their clients are aware of these incidents and to encourage anyone with similar encounters to report it to police.

Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is asked to contact the Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161, file 25-15879.
