With more rain in the forecast, authorities say B.C. isn’t in the clear just yet.

A flood warning remains in place for the Chilliwack River and the province says it is one of the most sensitive systems right now.

The Fraser Valley, Sea-to-Sky corridor and Vancouver Island remain under flood watches.

But there are some signs of hope.

The Lillooet River near Pemberton has been downgraded to a high streamflow advisory and the North Shore mountains flood watch has ended.

In an update Sunday afternoon, the City of Abbotsford downgraded evacuation order for 25 additional properties in the Sumas Prairie.

Evacuation orders remain in place for 11 properties, and 474 properties remain under evacuation alert.

“Of the properties with houses downgraded today from an Evacuation Order to an Evacuation Alert that required a Rapid Damage Assessment, 9 homes were assessed as green, 6 homes were assessed as yellow and no homes were assessed as red,” the city said on its website. “Rapid Damage Assessments were done on homes observed to be impacted by the floodwaters in the lifted Evacuation Order area by City of Abbotsford staff to ensure that people returning home can do so safely.”

It says structural assessments were only completed on the outside of homes and were not done on any additional structures such as sheds. The city recommends those returning home to have their homes and any other structures assessed for damages.

Wind and rainfall warnings remain in place for much of Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Environment Canada forecasts an additional 40 to 60 mm of rain to fall throughout the evening and into Wednesday morning.

Temperatures are also expected to drop as a cold front moves in.

“In the wake of the front, strong westerly wind gusts will develop over parts of these regions beginning late this evening,” Environment Canada said. “These strong winds may lead to possible tree damage, local power outages and travel delays. Winds will ease but remain gusty early Wednesday morning as the front tracks into the B.C. interior.”

Highway 3 remains closed and a travel advisory remains in effect for parts of Highway 1.

Overnight, between Tuesday and Wednesday, a landslide forced the closure of a section of Vedder Mountain Road in Chilliwack west of the Cultus Lake roundabout. It remained closed as of 6 a.m. Wednesday. 1130 NewsRadio has reached out to the Chilliwack RCMP for more information.
