Police are searching for suspects after shots were fired at the same home in Newmarket in two separate incidents, and in the latest incident, one person was left with serious injuries.
York Regional Police (YRP) officers were called to a residence on Hewitt Circle, near Bathurst Street and Mulock Drive, just after 4:30 a.m. on Thursday.
“One male suspect had exited the passenger side of a light-coloured SUV and fired multiple rounds towards the residence and vehicles parked in the driveway,” police stated in a release.
Police located one person inside a parked vehicle who was injured by the gunfire. Paramedics transported them to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
It’s not yet known if the person shot lived at the home.
Police said this is the second time in a week shots were fired at the home.
Around 1 a.m. on Oct. 16, officers responded to a call for the sounds of gunshots at the same address as Thursday’s incident. Police said the home was occupied at the time but no injuries were reported. Investigators said the garage and front door of the home, as well as two vehicles parked on a driveway, were damaged.
In the first incident, police describe the suspect as a male, seen wearing a dark hoodie and dark pants, who arrived at the scene in a light-coloured SUV.
Investigators said they are treating both shootings as targeted incidents.
Police are seeking surveillance and dashcam video of the area as they continue their investigation.
