Four people, including three male youths, have been arrested, and one is wanted after a jewellery store robbery at Upper Canada Mall on Wednesday evening.

York police were called to the mall just before 5:30 p.m. for reports of a commercial robbery in Newmarket.

It’s alleged that five suspects entered the jewellery store, armed with hammers and began smashing the cases, filling duffel bags with jewellery. When confronted by mall security, an aerosol irritant was allegedly sprayed at the officers.

The suspects fled in a white Mercedes SUV.

Officers followed the suspect vehicle to Highway 404 and Steeles Avenue, where it was boxed in by multiple police vehicles.

Four of the suspects were taken into custody while one is still outstanding.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle had been allegedly stolen during a home invasion in Vaughan earlier that morning. At this time, it’s unknown if the same suspects were involved in the home invasion.

Two 16-year-old males, a 15-year-old male and 18-year-old Kareem Haniff of the City of Toronto have been charged with robbery with an offensive weapon
weapon, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, disguise with intent, and two charges of assault with a weapon.

The outstanding suspect is described as a male, 16- to 20-years-old, with a thin build, wearing a black hoodie, black pants, black shoes and a black face mask.

At the time of this offence, Haniff was bound by an undertaking, and one of the 16-year-old youths was on a release order for unrelated offences.
