An important road in Cambridge is set to receive some significant upgrades thanks to millions of dollars in investment from the Region of Waterloo.
The region is investing $2.3 million to upgrade the portion of Can-Amera Parkway that connects Hespeler Road to Franklin Boulevard.
As it exists right now, the road’s asphalt is worn after years of heavy use, and the sidewalks on either side are narrow or nonexistent.
The proposed upgrades are set to replace those narrow sidewalks with a three-metre-wide multi-use path on either side of the roadway, new streetlights, improved Grand River Transit stops, and an additional guardrail on the roadway’s north side.
While the road will be completely repaved, the design will remain the same, with one eastbound lane, one westbound lane and gravel medians on either side.

Staff are set to return with more detailed designs in February, with the tendering process for construction to begin in March.
Construction is set to begin this summer, which could lead to traffic delays in that area of Cambridge while the project is underway.
