Rangers back atop Western Conference with win over Spitfires

The top two teams in the Western Conference went to battle on Friday evening, and your Kitchener Rangers put on an impressive performance, defeating the Windsor Spitfires.

Kitchener’s offence went to work early, scoring two goals in the first period from Haeden Ellis at 5:14 and Dylan Edwards at 18:44.

Rangers forward continued his hot streak, extending his point streak to 14 games with an assist on Edwards’ goal.

Captain Cameron Reid found the back of the net just 1:34 into the second period in what would be the eventual game winner, followed by a power-play goal by Tanner Lam at 13:02 to make it 4-0.

Windsor finally broke through with a power play goal from Anthony Cristoforo before the end of the second to make it 4-1.

The Rangers added three more goals during the third, including from Haeden Ellis, Carson Campbell and Luca Romano, while Windsor put one more on the board to make it a 7-2 finish.

Campbell recorded his first career Gordie Howe hat trick with an assist and a fight in the second period and a goal in the third.

“It felt good,” said Campbell after the game. “It was my first Gordie in the league, and I’m happy with that. Mark it as a good game.”

Dylan Edwards also recorded a Gordie Howe hat trick with a goal and a fight in the first period, followed by an assist in the second period.

After Friday’s game, Kitchener jumps back atop the Western Conference with a record of 32-11-4-1 and 69 points.

The Rangers have several days off until their next matchup, when they head down to London to take on the Knights on Wednesday at Canada Life Place.
