It’s GO time!
New weekend GO train service is officially kicking off with stops in Kitchener starting on Sunday morning.
It will have four trips in total; two departures from Kitchener and two from Toronto. It marks the first time that weekend service will go to and from Kitchener GO to Union Station.
There will be a morning train leaving Kitchener at 7:49 a.m., arriving at Union at 9:35 a.m. The afternoon train will depart Kitchener at 3:49 p.m., arriving in Toronto at 5:35 p.m. From Toronto, trains will leave at 4:48 p.m. and 10:48 p.m., arriving in Kitchener at 6:38 p.m. and 12:38 a.m., respectively.
The new changes will also mean 18 new weekend trips between Bramalea GO in Brampton and Union Station every 30 minutes.
The announcement of the new changes came last month after striking an Agreement-in-Principle with CN Rail to buy land to build 40 km of GO tracks on the Kitchener Line.
Currently, there is one active track between Kitchener GO and Georgetown GO that shares the space with freight trains. Some improvements that need to be made include building a new second south platform at Guelph Central GO Station, a 2.6 km track in Breslau between the Guelph and Kitchener GO Stations to allow for passing trains and a new storage track located west of Guelph for maintenance vehicles.
Once completed, the province says the new line will have hourly service to Kitchener with additional peak-period trips to Union Station, two-way all-way service to Bramalea seven days a week and 30-minute service to Mount Pleasant, including added rush hour trains.
Starting on Nov. 24, several changes will be made to weekday travel, including a new westbound trip from Union Station to Kitchener GO at 10:34 p.m., arriving in Kitchener at 12:26 a.m.
