Holiday lights are a great way to add some festive cheer to your home, but safety needs to remain top of mind, according to Enova Power.
“It is an exciting time of year, and holiday decorations and lights really help make the season merry and bright, but we wanna make sure that people are decorating with safety top of mind,” said Kelly McMath, communications supervisor with Enova.
McMath noted that each year, holiday lights are the cause of fires inside and outside of homes, a dangerous instance that can be avoided with proper installation.
“Home fires as a result of improper use of electrical devices is a common cause,” she said.
Proper installation of lights includes looking out for overhead power lines while you decorate, plugging outdoor lights into a circuit interrupter, and only using indoor lights indoors and outdoor lights outdoors.
