The submitted names have been voted on, the winner selected, and the ice resurfacer decked out, ready for skaters this winter.

The City of Kitchener’s first electric Zamboni has been named Obi-Wan Clean-obi.

The city made the announcement on social media this week with a Star Wars themed video showing the new machine with the classic scrolling text narrative opening and music.

“It is a period of winter weather. Snowflakes, falling from the sky, have ushered in sub-zero temperatures, freezing the water in the City of Kitchener,” reads the first frame.

“The people of Kitchener take to the ice, skates laced, but the surface is rough. All hope is lost, but for a brave ZAMBONI.”

The Zamboni displays the new name along with a bright blue lightsaber.

The ice resurfacer contest was launched in November, with the city taking name suggestions from the public.

It credits Obi-Wan Clean-obi to resident Cat H.

The machine “powered by electricity and the spirit of the force,” will clean the ice on the Carl Zehr Square ice rink.

The city previously told 570 NewsRadio that although Zamboni is an American company, the machine it purchased was manufactured in Brantford.
