The community is rooting for Addie and Springer, a pair of puppies who have defied the odds and are in stable condition after a tragic incident in Guelph last month.
In October, an individual brought nine eight-month-old puppies into the Guelph Humane Society in very poor condition, barely hanging onto life. When they arrived, four of those puppies were already dead.
The same individual brought an additional two puppies, who were about 10 months old, a few days later. Those dogs were taken to a separate clinic to keep them isolated from the other dogs who were initially brought in for care.
The team at the humane society identified that the puppies were suffering from canine parvovirus, a viral disease that impacts young dogs that is typically prevented through vaccination.
In a post to social media on Nov. 22, the humane society shared that three more puppies have died despite their best efforts to provide them care.
“Their loss has been felt deeply by our entire team, and we know you will share in our sadness,” said the Guelph Humane Society in a post to Instagram.
As a silver lining to this story, the humane society has also shared that two of the puppies, named Addie and Springer, are currently in stable condition and being monitored to give them a full chance at recovery.
“This tragic situation is an important reminder to all dog owners to protect their pets by ensuring they are up to date on their vaccines,” added the humane society.
