The new Cambridge Recreation Complex now has a new name for its fitness equipment.
In a staff report to council, the naming rights for a fitness area at the new facility will be awarded to GrandBridge Energy.
Under the deal, GrandBridge will pay $10,000 for a 10-year term to have the space called the “GrandBridge Energy Fitness Area.” Council is expected to approve the new name at their meeting on Monday.
“The revenue received will be utilized to help offset the annual tax-supported debenture expense associated with the Cambridge Recreation Complex,” read the report.
This comes after council directed staff to find naming partners with local companies to help offset the cost of the new facility. In July, Elements Engineering Inc. was awarded the rights to the naming of the three FIBA-sized gyms at the new facility for $150,000.
Construction on the new complex began back in October 2024 with a ground-breaking ceremony with council and local delegates.
In September, the Ontario government announced that it will be pledging $19.5 million for the project. In total, the project is expected to cost around $109 million.
The 112,000 sq. ft. facility, located at 655 Wesley Blvd., is set to have three FIBA-sized gyms, a 10-lane 25 metre length swimming pool, running and walking tracks and a branch of the Cambridge Public Library.
The new facility is expected to open in the fall of 2026.
