Air travel has changed a lot over the years.

Long gone are the heady days of the 40s and 50s, when flying was treated as a luxury experience. It’s become utilitarian as more passengers are jammed onto cramped flights after waiting hours in long lines to check in.

Chris Wood, Director, The Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF), wants to change that.

“Start your vacation here at the airport,” said Wood. “We really cater to ease of travel. Less congested, plenty of parking. We’re ready for you when you’re ready to travel,” he added.

Wood said air travel feels different when you choose to avoid the major metropolitan airports. He said the service feels more personal, the lines are much shorter, and there simply isn’t the volume of people.

When it comes to the travel itself, Wood said planning goes a long way to preventing headaches at the airport.

“Give yourself a little more time, pack your patience, if you will.”

Wood suggests making sure all your documents are in order and easily accessible. Check for any size limitations for carry-ons and be sure to abide by them while packing.

Bringing kids along can present a unique set of challenges. Wood said some of the same suggestions apply, like leaving yourself extra time.

“We’re very kid-friendly here at the airport. There’s lots of space, lots of room and lots of things to occupy, like looking out the window at the busy airport. We’re ready for you and your young ones as well.”

YKF has provided a list of tips to help alleviate stress while travelling.

You can find the list, along with other travel information on their website, www.waterlooairport.ca.
