Wind and rainfall warnings are in effect ahead of a storm system expected to make for a blustery Friday night in Halifax and across Nova Scotia.
CityNews meteorologist Allister Aalders says conditions will deteriorate into Friday evening, when the worst of the weather is expected in the Halifax area.
“That’s when we’ll have the heaviest rain, 15 to 30 mm, and the strong southerly winds gusting 80 to 100 km/h for HRM, possibly as high as 110 km/h right along the Atlantic coast. The peak period of winds will be from mid-evening to a couple of hours after midnight before things start to quiet down.”
The storm has led to Nova Scotia Power opening its emergency operations centre in anticipation of power outages.
The municipality meantime is encouraging people in the Halifax area to prepare for the possibility of some localized flooding as well as downed trees and power outages.
Halifax Water is also asking people to clear blocked storm drains and catch basins if it’s safe to do so.
