In the newest instalment of the battle of Nova Scotia, the Halifax Mooseheads fell 5-1 to the Cape Breton Eagles at Centre 200 in Sydney as the season series between the two clubs is now tied.

The Eagles carried a two goal lead into the first intermission as Raoul Boilard and Olivier Laverdière both found the back of the Mooseheads’ goal.

Cape Breton added to their lead in the second period as Eliot Litalien found his brother Romain Litalien, who fired one past Owen Bresson. Daniel Walters scored the lone goal for Halifax at 12:14 of the frame, driving to the Eagles’ net from the left wing and sending a backhand shot past Felix Hamel.

In the third, Lucas Romeo and Eliot Litalien scored for Cape Breton to secure the win for the Eagles and with frustrations boiling over for the Mooseheads, Quinn Kennedy dropped the gloves with Laverdière at 16:56 of the period.

With the loss, Halifax falls to 19-18-2-2 on the season.

Cape Breton swept the three stars of the game as Hamel earned first star, making 29 saves in the win. The second star was awarded to Boilard, while third star went to Eliot Litalien.

The Mooseheads return to action Friday, Jan. 23, when they host the Sherbrooke Phoenix at the Scotiabank Centre.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m., with live coverage on 95.7 NewsRadio. Garreth MacDonald will host the pre-game show beginning at 6:30 p.m.
