The two people who were killed in a collision just east of Halifax late last week are both parents.
According to two community fundraisers, Sean Wainwright and Katherine Anne McNeil were killed just after 7 a.m. on Highway 107 near Mineville on Oct. 17. Police say an eastbound Mazda 3 collided with an eastbound Hyundai Kona before the Mazda collided head-on with a westbound Mazda 3.
Both Wainwright and McNeil were pronounced dead at the scene.
McNeil’s “vibrant life” was cut short, a GoFundMe in her honour reads. She left behind three children and the community of Gaetz Brook in shock.
“Katherine was a fierce, wild, and loving mother who lived life on her own terms,” Tiffany Leopold wrote of McNeil. “Her presence touched countless hearts, and her love for her children knew no bounds.”
The fundraiser was started to support the funeral costs and the children’s future needs.
“Katherine may be gone, but her spirit will live on through her children. Let’s help give them the best possible future,” the fundraiser reads.

‘Gentle soul’ and father of two killed in crash
Wainwright, known to many as “Skinny” is being remembered as a “kind and gentle soul” who leaves behind his daughter Sophia, 14, son Dylan, 19, and partner Amanda.
On the morning of the incident, Wainwright was driving his son to work; Dylan was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital recovering.
“He should still be here with us, making us all laugh with his silly jokes and deciding if he should watch the next Jays game at home with Dylan or ‘over here’ in Ryan’s garage,” Hollie Quick wrote in the fundraiser.
The money will help the family as Amanda is now the sole earner. It will also go toward funeral costs.
This past August, the family took a trip to Toronto to watch the Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre, a memory Sophia said she will cherish for the rest of her life.
“We knew we could all rely on Sean to document every family vacation and football trip through endless photos, well-kept souvenirs – and yes, even spreadsheets,” the fundraiser reads. “Little did he know how precious those mementos would soon become to all of us.”
