Team Rachel Homan will have to settle for a shot at Olympic bronze.

The Canadian rink lost 6-3 to Team Anna Hasselborg of Sweden in the curling semifinals on Friday at Milano Cortina 2026.

Homan will now play in the bronze-medal game on Saturday against Team Tabitha Peterson of the U.S. (8:05 a.m. ET / 5:05 a.m. PT, CBC Gem, Sportsnet+).

Team Silvana Tirinzoni will face Sweden for gold on Sunday (5:05 a.m ET / 2:05 a.m. PT, CBC Gem, Sportsnet+) after the Swiss rink beat the U.S. 8-5 in the other semifinal.

After winning the past two world titles, Homan’s rink was not at its best all week.

“We were just a little bit on the wrong side of the inch, they played a phenomenal game,” Homan told CBC Olympics after the game. “You know, we never gave up, we stuck with each other ’til the end and we’re not done here yet.”

The Canadians won their last five round-robin games to nail down the fourth and final playoff spot, but then never led against Sweden in the semifinal.

The Swedes outcurled Canada 84-73 in percentage.

Homan had a record of 197-30 in the past three seasons heading into the semifinal.

“You’re not going to win every game, we’re gonna come back and fight hard (Saturday),” Homan told CBC Olympics.

It will mark the third consecutive Olympics in which Canada has not won gold in women’s curling.

Homan’s Ottawa-based rink missed the playoffs in 2018 and Jennifer Jones also did not play for medals in 2022.

Homan also missed the playoffs in Olympic mixed doubles with John Morris in 2022.

Hasselborg, meanwhile, will win her third consecutive Olympic medal. She took gold in 2018 and bronze in 2022.

Tirinzoni will win her first Olympic medal in her third appearance. The Swiss rink won four golds at the world championship before losing the past two world finals to Homan.
