Drivers are being reminded to obey road signs and stay off pedestrian paths after two vehicles became stuck in snow at Lake Louise on the weekend.
According to an online post from Banff National Park, park wardens and RCMP officers were called to the area over the weekend after two separate vehicles became stranded on the pedestrian‑only lakeshore promenade.
Both vehicles had driven onto the snow‑covered pathway leading toward the lake, an area designated for foot traffic.
Both vehicles became stuck in deep snow, prompting recovery efforts to free them. In one case, specialized equipment was needed to remove the car.
RCMP issued an $81 violation ticket to one driver for illegally parking on a sidewalk. The second driver received a warning.
Park officials report that the towing and recovery bills, in addition to the fines, were substantial.
“Vehicles in unauthorized areas can interfere with snow removal, restrict emergency access, and create safety hazards for pedestrians,” reads an online post from Banff National Park.
Park officials remind visitors to follow all signage and stay within designated parking and driving areas.
