An immense fire scorched two homes in northeast Taradale Saturday, displacing two people who were rushed to hospital in critical condition.
The Calgary Fire Department rang a second alarm after crews responded “late [Saturday] afternoon” to reports of a structure fire in the 100 block of Taradale Close. A large volume of smoke and flames was spotted coming from between two single-storey homes.
A search led firefighters to find two adults in the basement of one of the homes, who were then rushed to Foothills Medical Center by EMS with critical but non-life-threatening injuries.
Although the flames were extinguished, the homes were severely damaged, displacing the residents. A neighbouring home suffered minor exterior damage, crews say.
Fire investigators are investigating the cause.
Meanwhile, the fire department is asking residents to check that smoke alarms are working and installed on every level of their home, to have an escape plan, and to keep combustible materials away from their home.
