Calgary police have charged a man after he allegedly exposed himself to a family on a city bus last month.

The incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. on Dec. 4, as a family waited at the intersection of 25th Avenue SE and Macleod Trail, beside a Calgary Transit bus.

According to police, one of the children noticed a man seated by a window on the bus who then exposed himself and committed an indecent act.

The child told their mother, who asked her children to look away while she recorded the man. She later contacted the police.

Investigators reviewed the video but were initially unable to identify the suspect. After releasing information to the public, officers received several tips that led to the identification and arrest of a man.

Michael Anthony Grodde, 64, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of committing an indecent act in a public place and two counts of indecent exposure to a person under the age of 16.

Grodde had previously been declared a high-risk offender for similar charges nearly a decade ago. In 2016, Calgary police issued a notice saying he was wanted for breach of conditions and said at that time he had a significant history of sexual assault.

He will appear in a Calgary courtroom later this month.
