Calgary man charged with 75 offences after police seize guns, drugs, stolen Plates

A 27-year-old Calgary man is facing a lengthy list of charges after police seized firearms, ammunition, drugs, and dozens of stolen licence plates during an investigation into a stolen vehicle.

On Oct. 30, Calgary police officers found a stolen Subaru Forester at a parking lot in the southeast community of Radisson Heights.

Officers monitored the vehicle and arrested a man when he returned to it. A loaded handgun was found inside the SUV.

As part of the investigation, police executed a search warrant at a garage connected to a home on 39 Street NE in the community of Rundle. The search led to the discovery of:

  • Two handguns, including one loaded
  • 640 rounds of ammunition
  • Two sets of body armour
  • 39 stolen licence plates
  • Fentanyl

The suspect, identified as Rory Libbrecht, 27, of Calgary, has been charged with 75 offences, including theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, firearms offences, breach of probation, and drug possession.

Among the charges are 39 counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, 12 counts of breaching a firearms prohibition order, and 10 counts of breaching probation.

The accused appeared in court on Monday.
