A teenager is facing charges in connection to a lockdown at a northwest Calgary high school earlier this month.
On Tuesday, June 3, just after 12:30 p.m., James Fowler High School on 4 Street NW was put into lockdown after a 15-year-old girl called 911 to report a 17-year-old boy had entered the school with a gun.
Before the 911 call, police believe the two teens had a brief fight off school property.
Both the girl and boy were students at the school, police say.
Officers were quickly able to identify the suspect when they got to the scene, and came to the conclusion he was no longer in the school and wasn’t a threat to those inside.
However, police assessed each classroom in the building and the area around the school to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The lockdown lasted around two hours.
Police arrested the teenage boy on June 22.
He has since been charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, mischief, and carrying a concealed weapon.
The teen is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
He can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
