A home is destroyed after a fire in southwest Airdrie on Monday morning tore through a garage and upper-floor residence.
Airdrie Fire Chief Mike Pirie said crews arrived around 8:27 a.m. to find a “significant structure fire” on Channelside Drive, with a garage and second-floor home already heavily engulfed and threatening nearby homes and vehicles.
Residents had evacuated before firefighters arrived.
“Unfortunately, the primary building was a total loss, and nearby structures sustained some damage,” Pirie said in a social media post. “Crews were able to limit the spread and prevent more serious damage to neighbouring properties.”
A photo released by the department shows the home fully consumed by flames as firefighters attacked from above using a ladder truck.
The fire destroyed the garage and the residence above it.
Several nearby structures and vehicles were also damaged, but firefighters managed to stop the fire from spreading beyond the property of origin.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
