“There appear to be serious injuries, and the motorcyclist is on his way to be treated at hospital,” Delta Police Department Staff Sgt. Mike Whiteley told 1130 NewsRadio at the time.
In an update Monday, police have identified the motorcyclist as a 37-year-old man from Port Alberni.
The BCHP says he is “expected to survive but may have life-altering injuries.”
Police say no one else was injured.
Though the driver of the Toyota SUV remained on scene and is cooperating with police, investigators say knowing more about the moments leading up to the crash is crucially important.
“If you were in the area and saw these vehicles, or have dash camera footage, you could really help police by sharing what you saw,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.

Traffic was detoured after the crash closed a section of Highway 17 in both directions Saturday, blocking access to the ferry terminal.
