A motorcyclist was injured after a collision with an SUV near the Tsawwassen BC Ferries terminal Saturday, the Delta Police Department says.
“There appear to be serious injuries, and the motorcyclist is on his way to be treated at hospital,” Staff Sgt. Mike Whiteley told 1130 NewsRadio.
Traffic was detoured after the crash closed a section of Highway 17 in both directions, blocking access to the ferry terminal.
“[The stretch of highway will] be closed between Salish Sea and Tsawwassen Drive until BC Highways gets on scene and determines what kind of closure they need to conduct their investigation,” Whiteley said.
DriveBC says the detour runs from Salish Sea Drive to Blue Heron Way, and then to Tsawwassen Drive.
“Expect major delays getting to and from the terminal,” DriveBC posted on social media.
“Watch for crews directing traffic.”
One caller to the station named Fiona says multiple emergency vehicles were on the scene.
“They are making everyone park at Tsawwassen Mills mall and walk to the ferry terminal carrying their luggage,” she said.
