As of Wednesday, the Surrey Police Service (SPS) assumes responsibility for all policing operations in the Cloverdale policing district.

The change marks the next step in the policing transition from the RCMP to the SPS. The Cloverdale district spans 196 Street to the Fleetwood and Newton border and from the Fraser River to 48 Avenue.

The RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit will continue to provide policing service in Guildford.

In mid-February, the director of police services directed the SPS to assume full responsibility for all of Cloverdale on April 1. Since the decision, SPS says it has worked to develop a plan for temporary operational adjustments to support a safe and seamless transition that was presented to — and approved by — the Surrey Police Board.

To maintain service levels across all communities, the SPS says it will temporarily redeploy some officers from support and community-focused units to frontline policing and priority investigative work.

“Surrey Police Service looks forward to serving Cloverdale and continue building a strong, visible policing presence across Surrey,” said Chief Const. Norm Lipinski.

“Our focus remains on providing reliable, responsive policing for every Surrey neighbourhood,” Lipinski added.

Police office locations and phone numbers remain the same with 604-599-0502 for non-emergencies and 911 for emergencies.
