The Surrey Police Service (SPS) says a man was taken to hospital in serious condition after a crash involving a commercial truck on Saturday morning.

Police received a report of a crash between a large five-tonne commercial truck and a vehicle at the intersection of Highway 10 and 192 Street shortly after 10:30 a.m.

The Surrey Fire Service (SFS) needed to use the jaws of life to remove the man, who was the only occupant of the passenger vehicle.

“The driver, an adult male, was transported to the hospital with reportedly serious but not life-threatening injuries,” SPS Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said.

“The driver of the commercial vehicle was not injured and remained on scene.”

The cause of the collision is under investigation, he says.

Traffic was impacted into the afternoon, Houghton says, with lane closures on Highway 10 at 192 Street.

As of 4 p.m., all lanes have reopened.

Houghton adds that the driver’s condition has improved and is no longer considered serious.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage is asked to call the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and refer to file number 26-36674 (SP).
