Police investigating Richmond 7-Eleven fire as arson

Police in Richmond are seeking witnesses after an alleged arson outside a 7-Eleven over the weekend.

The Richmond RCMP says it was called to the store on Granville Avenue near St. Albans Road around 1:19 a.m. Sunday.

An employee reported the fire, and Richmond Fire Rescue crews arrived to put it out. No injuries were reported.

An video recorded outside the 7-Eleven at the time, shows people struggling with the fire as it burns a cart full of items near the door.

“Our investigators are aware of footage circulating on social media. While we appreciate the concern being shown, we ask anyone who has video footage or information about this incident to contact police investigators directly,” says Cpl. Melissa Lui.

Mounties say a person of interest has been identified and the fire is under investigation.
