The family of 10-year-old Charleigh Pollock, a girl battling the rare and terminal Batten disease, is expressing gratitude after public donations allowed them to purchase a life-altering treatment.
In a social media post, the Vancouver Island family shared their appreciation for being able to buy the first privately funded dose of Brineura, one of the only treatment methods for the disease.

Last month, the provincial government cut coverage for Charleigh’s drug, Brineura, citing a lack of clinical evidence to suggest further benefits from the treatment.
Premier David Eby has stated the province could re-evaluate the case, urging the drug manufacturer to submit any new evidence to the drug review agency for consideration.
