A Metro Vancouver regional park was shut down again over the weekend due to the dangers of a “nuisance bear.”
The regional district says the bear was spotted at Belcarra Regional Park on White Pine Beach three times Saturday morning.

“Metro Vancouver Regional Parks staff have determined that White Pine Beach will remain closed until further notice,” said Jennifer Saltman, media relations spokesperson with Metro Vancouver.
“Other parts of the park remain open. Visitors are urged to follow posted signs and closures in the park.”

Effective immediately, a previous food ban has been lifted. However, a “no cooking” ban is now in effect across the entire park.
A concession vendor later reopened to provide beverages.
“If you see a bear, give it space: stay at least 100 metres away; give it an escape route; do not yell/scream/run; stop and stay calm; speak in a calm voice to let the bear know you are human and slowly wave your arms; back away slowly,” said a spokesperson for the regional district.
The same beach was temporarily closed in May after reports of a “potentially aggressive” bear around Sasamat Lake.
“Visitors are reminded to put all trash in the bear-proof bins as garbage can attract bears.”
