“Our officers, along with numerous other firefighters and other personnel responders, responded, attended the scene. The pedestrian who was in a wheelchair has been taken to hospital and they’re believed to have serious injuries,” Const. Mansoor Sahak told 1130 NewsRadio.

The driver of the SUV was assessed by BC Emergency Health Services and also sustained injuries, Sahak adds.

“At this point, it doesn’t appear alcohol has been a factor, but our investigation is still ongoing, and we’re actively investigating this,” he said.

“Once we have been able to gather evidence and witness statements, then that would determine the course of the investigation, whether there will be charges or not,” Sahak explained.

In a statement, BCEHS says one ambulance with primary care paramedics, one ambulance with advanced care paramedics, and one paramedic supervisor responded to the incident.

“Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to two patients who were transported to hospital,” said Paramedic Public Information Officer Brian Twaites.
