Thousands of chickens are believed to be dead after a massive barn fire in Langley on Sunday.

Flames broke out at a property on 256th Street and 8th Avenue around 2 a.m. in the early morning of June 29.

Two of the three barns on the property were completely engulfed in flames.

“At one point we had ten firetrucks at the scene with approximately thirty firefighters,” said Deputy Assistant Fire Chief Cory Parker.

“Luckily, we were able to save one of the structures, but two barns were completely destroyed.”

An investigation is underway to determine what caused the fire.

“Our investigators are on the scene right now, investigating, but no cause has been determined,” said Parker.

Langley Fire crews believe roughly 20,000 chickens were killed.
