The Kitsilano Pool will open this Saturday, June 21, the Vancouver Park Board announced on Instagram Tuesday.

This comes after some delays in the schedule for the popular pool located right next to Kitsilano Beach.

First, an initial City Hall announcement early May this year raised the hopes of many water lovers that the pool would be open for the entire summer.

Those hopes, however, were crushed in less than a week from the original announcement, when the city said it would push the scheduled opening to mid-June, without naming an exact date.

The reason for the delay were newly identified pool infrastructure issues.

Then on June 4, the city released another update saying “the exact timing will depend on how the repair work progresses,” keeping many lap swimmers and water splashers hoping to use their swimsuits soon.

In the June 4 announcement, the city recognized the value the pool holds for Vancouverites: “the pool holds a special place in the hearts of Vancouverites as an iconic facility, synonymous with summer.”

The 50-year-old pool requires annual maintenance and occasional repairs. Due to that, the pool was only open for one month in 2024 after undergoing $4 million in repairs.
