
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says one person is dead after a shooting in Burnaby Wednesday afternoon.
Police have identified the victim as 34-year-old Shahaib Abasi.

IHIT says the Burnaby RCMP was called to Still Creek Drive near Willingdon Avenue around 5:30 p.m.
When first responders arrived at a parking lot outside a McDonald’s restaurant, they found a man had died.

Approximately 15 minutes after the initial service call, the Burnaby RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle fire near the intersection of Nursery Street and Lakefield Drive in South Burnaby.
“The burnt vehicle, located after the shooting near Nursery Street and Lakefield Drive, is a white Mitsubishi RVR,” said IHIT Cpl. Sukhi Dhesi.
“Police are asking anyone who may have seen this vehicle in the times before and after the shooting to please speak with police.”
Police say Abasi was known to police, and the shooting is believed to have been targeted and related to the B.C. Gang Conflict.
