Evacuation order issued for 2 Lytton First Nation reserves due to nearby wildfire

The Lytton First Nation issued an evacuation order for two of its reserves on Thursday due to the nearby Cantilever Bar wildfire.

The fire, estimated to be around 650 hectares, is burning out of control 10 kilometres south of the Village of Lytton, on the west side of the Fraser River.

Lytton 26A and Skwayaynope 26 reserve residents are being urged to evacuate as the wildfire is “a threat to life and safety.”

“Impacted residents must evacuate NOW,” EmergencyInfoBC said Thursday.

For those who are impacted, the Lytton First Nation Battlefield Community Hall, at 1756 Battlefield Road, has been activated as a reception centre.
