A man has been arrested in a stabbing that injured two people on a TTC streetcar in downtown Toronto during rush hour on Monday morning.

Emergency crews were called to College and Bathurst streets just before 8:30 a.m. for reports of a stabbing aboard the 506 Carlton streetcar.

Paramedics transported a man in his 60s and a woman in her 30s to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A third person, believed to be the streetcar operator, was assessed at the scene, but they were not injured.

A 42-year-old Toronto man was taken into custody shortly after.

It’s alleged the suspect and one of the victims, who were known to each other, became involved in an argument on a TTC streetcar when the suspect tried to pull the victim, the woman in her 30s, off the streetcar.

The second victim, the man in his 60s, tried to intervene at which point, the suspect allegedly stabbed both of the victims.

Patrick St. Dennis has been charged with attempted murder, two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of assault, theft under $5,000, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, possession of a weapon, two counts of fail to comply with release order and two counts of breach of probation.

He appeared in court on Monday.

TTC CEO Mandeep Lali said transit officials are actively working with Toronto police to assist with the case.

“While the circumstances leading to this are under investigation, I share everyone’s concerns when something like this happens on TTC property,” Lali said in a statement shared on X. “We extend our thoughts to the victims and anyone who witnessed it. We encourage anyone with information to share it with police.”

The investigation is ongoing.
