Elderly woman critically injured in Scarborough stabbing; girl, 16, charged

A 16-year-old girl has been charged after a woman in her late 80s was stabbed inside a residence in Scarborough.

Emergency crews responded to a home on Hallbank Terrace near Sheppard Avenue East and McCowan Road around 1:40 p.m. on Friday.

Police initially said the woman suffered serious injuries, but in an update, confirmed that her injuries are life-threatening.

Investigators say a 16-year-old girl was taken into custody a short distance away. She has been charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

The woman and the girl lived in the same residence, and police say they were known to each other, but did not specify the nature of their relationship
