An innocent bystander is among two people seriously injured following a gunfight between a group of individuals near a school in the city’s west end.

Investigators say just before noon on Wednesday, two groups of three to four people were shooting at each other across Keele Street near Donald Avenue.

Police say a 17-year-old male was struck along with a 30-year-old woman, who happened to be driving through the area when the shooting began.

Police would not say if the teen is connected to the shooting, but confirmed that the woman was an innocent bystander.

“It’s an unfortunate incident that this sort of nonsense is taking place in broad daylight across from a school, where it’s very heavy traffic – this is a main artery,” said Supt. Rich Harris.

Paramedics say they transported two people to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police say one young person has been taken into custody, and a firearm and a loaded magazine have been recovered. No descriptions of the other suspects have been released.

York Memorial Collegiate Institute, along with several other schools in the area, were under a lockdown and hold and secure. Those protocols have now been lifted, according to the Toronto District School Board.
