Authorities arrested six people and are on the hunt for additional suspects following an armed home invasion near Huntsville early Tuesday morning.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers were called to a private residence in the Hillside area just before 5:00 a.m.
Police say the investigation extended beyond the original location, prompting the closure of Highway 11 in both directions between Severn River Road and Coopers Falls Road, and also between Canning Road and Graham Road.
Authorities also issued a hold and secure order for the area, which has now been lifted.
OPP say a number of specialized units were deployed to the area, including its tactics and rescue unit, emergency response team and canine unit.
“Aviation Services assisted with aerial support, while crisis negotiators and crime units were actively engaged in the response,” OPP said in a statement issued Tuesday.
Officers also worked with “CN Police due to the proximity of rail lines, and with Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and emergency medical services partners to ensure public safety and support operational needs.”
OPP say six individuals were taken into custody following an investigation. However, officers believe additional suspects are still at-large, along with a silver Honda CRV with an Ontario licence plate “CZFE 895.”
“The OPP urges the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity to police,” authorities added. “This investigation remains ongoing, and more information will be released when available.”
Officers say residents of the area should expect to see an increased police presence nearby.
