One person died and another was critically injured in a house fire in Scarborough that happened early Tuesday morning.
Emergency services were called to Snowball Crescent near Sheppard Avenue and Washburn Way around 5:30 a.m. to the two-alarm fire.
When they arrived, flames and smoke could be seen penetrating through the winds on the main floor of the house.
Two occupants of the home were rescued from the second floor by fire crews. They were the only two people in the home at the time of the fire.
In an update on December 29, Toronto Fire told CityNews that the family reported that a woman died in hospital. OMNI News spoke to Paulo Sosa, who identified the woman as his Aunt, Rebecca Sosa.

Sosa says his family started a GoFundMe campaign as they grieve the loss from the fire. Sosa also says the family’s dog Lotto is still missing.

Toronto Fire Chief Jim Jessop said it’s unknown at this point where the fire started in the home, but the heaviest fire damage was on the second floor.
There is no risk to any of the neighbouring homes and no firefighters were injured.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has confirmed they are investigating the fire.
