Just when you thought you could pack away that parka, the weather rollercoaster plunged into minus double digit wind chills earlier this week as predictably unpredictable April weather settles in across the GTA.
Toronto woke up to a chilly morning with a temperature below 0 C on Wednesday, with a mainly sunny afternoon and temperatures closer to seasonal.
The daytime high is expected to reach 6 C, which is slightly below seasonal as the average for this time of year is 10 C. Temperatures near the lakeshore are running a few degrees cooler thanks to a southeast wind. The low is expected to be around 2 C this evening, but slowly rising overnight to reach 6 C by early Thursday morning.
Temperatures climb mid-week
Keep both your parkas and lighter coats handy as temperatures are set to rise, fall and then rise again with the rest of the week also playing out in typically erratic April fashion.
Thursday is shaping up to be the warmest day of the week with temperatures expected to spike to an above seasonal daytime high of 17 C. Very light rain of less than 1 millimetre is expected, starting near the lunch hour and clearing out by 3 p.m., so the drive home will be sunny and dry.

Friday morning could be tricky for travel as precipitation across the north GTA and into cottage country may begin as wet snow, then change to rain with the daytime high dipping back down to 6 C. While places like Barrie, Midland and Orillia may see some wet snow accumulation between two to five centimetres, northern York region could see a brief period of rain/snow mix or freezing rain with little to no accumulation.
Eight to 15 millimetres of rain is also expected all across the GTA so keep the umbrella handy. It’s will clear out by the end of the work day.

The weekend is expected to be more comfortable and both Saturday and Sunday are looking dry. While Saturday’s high will creep into the double digits near 11 C, Sunday’s temperature will be challenged by a return of a cool southeast lake breeze which will keep temperatures in the high single digits near 8 C.
