As Greater Toronto Area residents woke up to a chilly start on Tuesday, it comes as temperatures are expected to swing up and down throughout the week.

The high for Tuesday was expected to be near seasonal, sitting around 5 C with sporadic flurries. The low will be -2 C.

By Wednesday afternoon, conditions are expected to somewhat improve. Although it will be cloudy with a chance of showers, temperatures should sit around 5 C. Temperatures drop to a low of 3 C in the evening.

CityNews chief meteorologist Natasha Ramsahai said northerly wind gusts off Lake Ontario will bring cooler temperatures along the shoreline throughout the coming weeks.

Big temperature swing later in the week

Meteorologists say a big shift is expected to come on Thursday due to an incoming cold front.

A cold front moving through the GTA will bring rain during the afternoon and evening, potentially affecting the afternoon commute. Rainfall amounts are expected to total around 10 millimetres with heavier rain north of Toronto. Ramsahai said parts of York Region could potentially see that rain switch to snow.

Ahead of the front, temperatures will briefly surge with highs expected to reach 12 C. The low is expected to be -6 C.

Those daytime conditions won’t last as Friday shifts into chillier but sunny conditions. Temperatures are expected to fall sharply with a forecast high of 1 C and a low of -6 C.

Seasonal and spring-like conditions are expected to arrive next week. Although subject to change, temperatures on Monday will potentially hover around 9 C.
