TTC CEO Mandeep Lali has issued a public apology following a significant service disruption on Line 1 during Wednesday morning’s rush hour, which left thousands of commuters facing delays and scrambling for alternate transportation.

According to TTC officials, there was no subway service between Lawrence West and St. George stations. The shutdown came from track work at St. Clair West Station that was not completed on time.

“This morning on Line 1 near Eglinton West Station, we had a late clearing work zone where crews had been making overnight switch repairs. Unfortunately, this resulted in delays getting trains out for service and led to significant inconvenience for our customers. For this, I apologize,” read Lali’s statement.

The most severe impact was felt between 6 a.m. and 7:40 a.m., prompting the TTC to deploy shuttle buses between Lawrence West and St. George stations. Additional buses were added to support slower train service across the line.

“As CEO, I want to assure everyone that I am accountable and I have asked our team to take immediate steps to mitigate such events in the future,” Lali said. “Thank you for your understanding as we work to deliver the kind of reliable service you need and that you deserve.”
