A 78-year-old woman is dead and another woman was injured following a serious two-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of Highway 403 in Oakville.
Ontario Provincial Police say they were called just after 9:30 p.m. Thursday about a a disabled SUV in a live lane of the highway near Dundas Street.
Investigators say before emergency personnel could reach the scene, the SUV was struck by a tractor trailer.
The 78-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene while a 67-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the tractor trailer did not suffer any physical injuries.
The highway was closed for several hours due to the investigation before reopening around 4 a.m. Friday.
