A man in his 30s was rushed to a hospital early Sunday morning after an unprovoked stabbing in Toronto’s Kensington Market neighbourhood, police say.

According to investigators, the victim was attacked near Bellevue Avenue and Wales Avenue, north of Dundas Street, just before 5:00 a.m.

He was located by police with multiple stab wounds and transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.

“This stabbing was unprovoked, but targeted,” said Sr. Duty Insp. Todd Jocko who would not say if the two men were known to each other.

Police say the suspect is a 38-year-old man from Toronto. He fled the scene and was arrested several hours after the stabbing.

Authorities say he remains in custody and will faces charges in the upcoming days.
