A man is dead following a collision between a commercial van and an e-scooter near Tommy Thompson Park.

Toronto police say the collision occurred just before 7:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Leslie Street and Unwin Avenue area.

A man who was riding the scooter was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, where he was later pronounced dead.

The age of the victim was not immediately available.

Police say the operator of the e-scooter was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and that the circumstances leading up to the collision are still being determined.

“I don’t know if speed is a factor or if the corner itself or whether it was the occupant of the e-scooter or the driver of the mini-van, if either one is at fault,” said Duty Insp. Dan Pravica in an update Wednesday evening.

Investigators say the driver of the van remained at the scene.
