Toronto police are searching for three suspects after a 30-year-old man was shot and killed late Friday in a residential Etobicoke neighbourhood.

Investigators were called to a parking lot near Scarlettwood Court and Scarlett Road just after 10 p.m. for reports of gunshots.

When police arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside a parked vehicle.

Life-saving measures were performed at the scene before the man was taken to a trauma center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities identified the victim as 30-year-old Ahmed-Nur Ismail of Toronto.

Detectives said the shooting occurred in a large family area and that residents are concerned for their safety.

“I would be concerned if I lived in their residence and there was a shooting that occurred in the parking lot where I lived, so I understand their concerns,” said Det. Sgt. Nathan Gibson on Saturday. “I’ve indicated that we are going to have heightened resources. Community members in 23 Division are going to see a lot of uniform support in that neighbourhood.”

Police say the three suspects, who fled in a vehicle, discharged their weapons multiple times at the vehicle Ismail was in at the time of the shooting. No suspect descriptions were immediately available.

Asked whether police believe the incident was targeted, Gibson said it was too early in the investigation to say.

One local resident tells CityNews he’s not surprised, but he is concerned about the level of gun violence in his community.

“It shouldn’t be not new to us, it’s traumatizing for little kids that grow up and see stuff like this,” said Jahvonte. “I’ve seen stuff like this my whole life, and it’s like, why do we have to deal with it? Why do we have to go out and have conflict like this, and then kids don’t want to go outside, and people are scared?”
