A Toronto police officer suffered non-life threatening injuries after the motorcycle he was riding and a transport truck collided on Highway 403 in Mississauga.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say the crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. Thursday.
The police officer was rushed to a trauma centre with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
All westbound lanes of the 403 were closed for more than six hours between Dundas Street and Queen Elizabeth Way as police investigated the circumstances surrounding the crash.
“We’ve seen that far too often, not just in this situation, but anytime there’s a vulnerable road user – a motorcyclist, a pedestrian, a bicyclist involved in a collision with any type of vehicle, the potential for injuries are significant. No matter who’s right or wrong, the vulnerable road user is the one who is going to pay the price in terms of the injuries,” said Sgt. Kerry Schmidt. “That is what we’re trying to understand, exactly what took place and that will come out as the investigation continues.”
Toronto police said the collision occurred while the officer was participating in a motorcade training exercise. “We’re thinking of our officer and wishing him a full and speedy recovery,” read their statement.
