York Regional Police (YRP) say an 18-year-old man on probation is facing several charges including attempted murder with a firearm following a shooting in East Gwillimbury.
Officers were called to a home in the area of Balsdon Hollow and Petal Avenue near Leslie Street around 8:40 a.m. on Wednesday.
When emergency crews arrived, they located a male with a gunshot wound. Paramedics took him to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say the suspect fled the scene in a grey Honda Civic that was reported stolen in Toronto on June 16.
Less than an hour later, around 9:30 a.m., officers, along with the Air Support Unit, located the vehicle near Sentinel Road and Finch Avenue West in Toronto.
Officers, along with the Emergency Response Unit, arrested the suspect. They also recovered a firearm.
Feysal Mohamed, of Toronto, is also charged with discharge firearm with intent, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, possession of property obtained by crime, two counts of breach of probation, and possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order.
“At the time of the offence Mohamed was on probation and a firearms prohibition order for unrelated offences,” police stated in a release.
The circumstances that led to the shooting are not yet known.
The investigation is ongoing.
