A portion of a laneway between two apartment buildings has collapsed and swallowed a tanker truck in Toronto’s Weston neighbourhood.

Toronto Fire Services says it received a call about a structural collapse at 2360 Weston Road, just south of St. Phillips Road, at approximately 8:06 a.m.

Chopper footage shows the truck in a massive hole leading into the apartment building’s underground parking garage.

Authorities say no injuries were reported and residents of the building have been notified of the issue. Crews are assessing the stability of the building, but so far, no one has been evacuated.

The driver of the truck told CityNews that he was in the area to service portable toilets at a construction site adjacent to the building.

Chopper footage shows a utility truck sunken into a parking garage collapse.

When he jumped out of the truck to clean up the port-a-potties, he noticed that the backend of his truck was slowly sinking into the ground.

“I though that’s kind of weird. Then I looked down and saw all the cracks and I ran,” the driver said.

“I didn’t even have a phone to call somebody,” he explained. “It’s in the truck!”

The vehicle was still on and running as of 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. A tow truck is on-site and is working to determine a course of action.

Officials did not provide any details about the suspected cause of the collapse.

Weston Road has been reduced to a single lane in both directions while police and fire crews respond to the situation.

In a statement Tuesday afternoon, Greenwin the property management that runs the building, says the building remains fully occupied and all essential services continue to operate.

“Management is closely monitoring the situation and working diligently to ensure a prompt and comprehensive resolution,” said Greenwin in their statement.
